Community service helps others, gets noticed

Current players, alumni and friends of the Titans joined forces for the seventh annual special needs basketball camp held this week.

University of Detroit Mercy keeps the acts of service coming even in the middle of summer. And others are noticing.

Two recent events were subjects of news stories by Detroit media and we wanted to be sure you saw the difference Detroit Mercy makes in the lives of the community all year long. (Plus, you can brag about it to your friends and impress tomorrow’s Titans.)

The Athletics department brought special needs students to Calihan Hall on the McNichols Campus for a special basketball camp. The effects were felt by both the participants and our student athletes who ran it. Check out WXYZ-TV’s story here. An Athletics Department’s video can be seen here. The event was co-hosted by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

WDET-FM, the local public radio station, did this audio piece on the School of Dentistry’s traveling dental office and the work it does for children in underserved communities. Listen here. The van is sponsored by funding from Delta Dental Foundation.
