It’s Catholic Schools Week, a week that promotes the important role of Catholic schools in today’s educational system.
The superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Detroit is a Titan: Kevin Kijewski ’03, and he credits his love of Catholic education with his experience at Detroit Mercy.
“I got a great Catholic education there from the Jesuits,” Kijewski is quoted as saying in the article. “And inevitably, I had a great Jesuit convince me to teach for a few years before I went to law school.”
Fast forward 13 years, and you’ll hardly find a bigger proponent of Catholic education.
“Even though I didn’t go to Catholic school, I saw by teaching in one the efficacy of what Catholic schools are able to do for kids,” said Kijewski, who taught economics and history in Denver Catholic schools as part of the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education program from 2005-07 before later becoming superintendent of the Philadelphia and Denver archdioceses’ schools.
