Photo of social media postsIt wasn’t the day they were hoping for, but the Class of 2020 marked what would have been their graduation day over the weekend in private celebrations and in quiet ways.

We asked them to share their stories of how they were feeling about the quiet conclusion to their schoolyear and they responded on all social medias. We have collected these stories on our website and they will be available to read through May at udmercy.edu/2020. Here are a few of their stories.

Savannah_lee14: What do you call graduation with no commencement, no cap, and no gown? Saturday.

_damylohlah_: After 4 long years of hard work and dedication, I am supposed to be walking that stage today to celebrate the successful completion of my first of many degrees but due to the situation I don’t get to. I just want to celebrate myself after 4 long years and usher myself into the next phase of my life even during this uncertain times. I am grateful for the knowledge, friendships, long nights and growth I have experienced during the past four years. I am grateful to God for seeing through it. Watch out world, here I come!
teenytinytoothfairy: though it’s not quite the day we all expected, it’s still one for the books Happy (would-be) Graduation Day/Week/Month to all my classmates and to dental students around the world. We earned this, and though it may not be the same as walking across the stage in our robes, we still deserve to celebrate.
amandazellar: Congratulations fellow grads!Everyone sitting at their kitchen table today graduating knows we all got here through work, the approximation of work, some more work–and luck.
There are many more, check out the page at the link above.
It’s important to remember that the University has not canceled Commencements. It has merely postponed them until a time — we hope this fall — when they can be safely celebrated the way the Class of 2020 deserves.
