Three women earning their Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing received tuition help thanks to a generous grant from the Metro Health Foundation.<\/p>\n
The students, all members of the Class of 2019, were chosen by the faculty at the McAuley School of Nursing to receive $4,000. They are:<\/p>\n
Cassandra Washington, who is working on her degree while raising two children. She also started a community clean-up in her neighborhood. Caring for an ailing grandmother and son fueled her passion to be a nurse and she hopes to work at Children’s Hospital of Detroit.<\/p>\n
An illness showed Taylor Jirjis the importance of good nursing and that is why she has her eyes on becoming a nurse. She is a board member of the Detroit Prevention and Awareness in the Community organization and the Student Nursing Association.<\/p>\n
Detroit Mercy’s mission of social justice is the backbone of Maya Ghandour’s desire to follow her calling as a nurse. She is involved with many organizations that promote the cause and she has done volunteer work in the children’s ward at local hospitals. She hopes to continue and earn her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.<\/p>\n
For several years in a row, Metro Health Foundation has funded three, $4,000 scholarships for students of the College of Health Professions and the University thanks the organization for its commitment to the Detroit Mercy students and the future of health care.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
