He retired in 2014, and passed away in 2016. While here, he hosted “Ask The Professor,” an entertaining and (sometimes) educational quiz show that remains one of the longest-running broadcast shows in the United States. It still airs every week, led by Chemistry Professor Matt Mio ’97 and can be found here.

DeWindt’s wife, Anne, has donated 25 paintings done by her husband’s father, Joseph C. DeWindt, to the University. The elder DeWindt was a devoted artist and Anne DeWindt wanted the work to find a home so they could be appreciated by a wider audience. They are on display in an exhibit titled “A Fresh Vision: The World Seen Through the Eyes of Joseph C. DeWindt” on the first floor of the McNichols Campus Library; click here for hours.

The works are part of a silent auction running through Jan. 31 with all funds raised supporting the History Department. The event is co-sponsored by the History Honors Society Phi Alpha Theta and the Carney Latin American Solidarity Archive (CLASA) on whose webpage the artwork can be seen. Starting price for all pieces is $25.

A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the Library. The auction closes at 7 p.m. and winning bidders can take their treasures home with them. Those who want to bid but can’t make the event can contact Professor of Philosophy Gail Presbey at presbegm@udmercy.edu to make arrangements.

Original artwork by the father of one of Detroit Mercy’s most well-known professors is being auctioned off as a fundraiser for the History department. Professor Edwin DeWindt taught at Detroit Mercy for 46 years in the History Department.
