We are hosting a reunion for that class during Homecoming weekend Sept. 28-29, but one group of alumni couldn’t wait.

Members of our Chemical Engineering Class of 1968 jumped at the opportunity to celebrate their golden jubilee. Joe Joseph took the lead on the search to find his former classmates. They had been disconnected for so long, he turned to Forever Titans and began searching the directory for his classmates, with great success.

Unfortunately the date for the full reunion wasn’t cutting it, so they decided to host their own on campus, earlier this month. The class of 1968 only had 17 Chemical Engineers at the time, and 13 of them were accounted for. They even found David Camp, who was one of the deans while they were in school.

The 13 who attended came from California, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Ontario, and Michigan. The group came up with an entire itinerary to make the most of their time at their alma mater and in Detroit. Activities included a morning Mass, a campus tour, lunch in the Titan Dining Room, a ceremony in which they received their golden jubilee pins, a bus tour downtown and dinner. While they were here they expressed joy that their alma mater was doing so well, despite the stories they hear about Detroit, and were pleased with how beautiful campus looks. There were many good feelings upon their departure.

Since the reunion, many of them have already circled back with the University to find out how they can get more engaged through volunteering, mentoring and giving back to their programs and University priorities.

We love it when our alumni take the initiative to form gatherings. If you are similarly curious about what your old classmates are doing, make sure to join our alumni website, Forever Titans, and search our alumni directory.

If you have similar stories you’d like to share with us please email alumni@udmercy.edu.

If you’re in the Class of 1968, it’s been 50 years since you graduated.
