\"\"Detroit Mercy will host a friendly but competitive\u00a0mathematics competition\u00a0for high school students to test their problem-solving skills and mathematical knowledge in February 2019.\u00a0\u00a0But until then, high school students have a chance to gain invaluable practice at solving math problems online through web math puzzles created by Detroit Mercy\u2019s Math Department at\u00a0https:\/\/bit.ly\/2RcQOHV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Detroit Mercy will hold the competition on campus Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the College of Engineering & Science. Students interested in participating should register early. Detroit Mercy will award cash prizes to winners. To register, please visit\u00a0https:\/\/bit.ly\/2PVe00Y<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the day of the on-campus competition, high school students can also speak with current Detroit Mercy students, alumni and faculty in the Mathematics Department to learn more about compelling careers. Following the competition, the University will announce the names of winning high school students on the Detroit Mercy mathematics website.<\/p>\n

The first place winner will receive $500; the second place winner $300; and the third place winner $200. In addition, the faculty will award honorable mentions and also recognize top performers.<\/p>\n

Before the competition in February, students can participate in the ongoing Online Math Puzzles hosted by the University Mathematics Department.\u00a0Several times every term, the math faculty post web puzzles on the DMMC website at\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/bit.ly\/2RcQOHV<\/a>.\u00a0These web puzzles test the mathematical and logical reasoning skills of students.\u00a0Students must submit all answers via email at\u00a0dmmc@udmercy.edu<\/a>\u00a0by the due date posted on the puzzle page.<\/p>\n

The University\u2019s Math Department will post the names of top puzzle solvers on the University\u2019s DMMC puzzle website.\u00a0All students may participate in the public competition. These web math competitions will build now through February 2019 with the goal of increasing awareness of the Detroit Mercy Math program.<\/p>\n
