Detroit Mercy\u2019s College of Business Administration gave out its annual Business Leadership Awards on Saturday, Oct. 6, during a celebration at the Detroit Golf Club.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the College announced the opening of the Center for Practice & Research in Management & Ethics (PRIME) and launched the Center\u2019s national speaker series with information about the first speaker, Denise Morrison, former president and CEO of Campbell Soup Company.<\/p>\n
Business Leadership Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n The CBA\u2019s Business Leadership Awards featured a morning Mass celebrated by Fr. Theodore Munz, S.J., at the St. Ignatius Chapel in the Commerce & Finance Building on the McNichols Campus. The reception took place at the Detroit Golf Club. Provost and Vice President of Academic Affair Pamela Zarkowski welcomed guests and acknowledged this year\u2019s event sponsors. Sr. Linda Wethman, R.S.M., gave the invocation, which was followed by brunch.<\/p>\n This year, the CBA honored four exceptional individuals who achieved great success during their careers while living the Detroit Mercy mission. Joseph Eisenhauer, dean of the college, presented the following awards:<\/p>\n Rising Stars<\/strong><\/p>\n Shayla Manning, \u201907, \u201909,\u00a0<\/em>Senior Strategist at\u00a0<\/em>DTE Energy<\/em><\/p>\n Manning is the supervisor of DTE Energy\u2019s Long-Term Energy Forecasting team, which is responsible for translating economic and market dynamics into actionable insights as they relate to electric markets and long-term forecasting activities. She has more than 11 years of forecasting, statistical analysis, strategy and planning experience in the utility industry. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, recently ending a four-year term on the executive board of the Detroit chapter. She also served as the graduate advisor of the Detroit Mercy chapter, Theta Tau. Manning also volunteers for numerous community organizations, such as Meals on Wheels, the Ronald McDonald House and Earth Works Detroit.<\/p>\n Christina Pauken, \u201912, \u201919,\u00a0<\/em>Senior Analyst, Regulatory Affairs at\u00a0<\/em>DTE Energy<\/em><\/p>\n Pauken serves as a senior analyst for DTE Energy, supporting regulatory affairs and case management related to electric and natural gas with the Michigan Public Service Commission. She previously spent seven years as a senior financial analyst at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. She currently serves on the Finance Council of Saints Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, and as chairperson of the Magis Council for the Pope Francis Center, where she frequently volunteers. She is an active member and two-term president of the Alumni Board for the CBA. In addition to her B.S. and MBA degrees, Pauken earned a certificate in Catholic Studies, and is a graduate of Contemplative Leaders in Action, a Jesuit leadership development program.<\/p>\n Lifetime Achievement Award<\/strong><\/p>\n Marilyn French Hubbard, \u201975,\u00a0<\/em>Vice President & Chief Diversity Officer at Henry Ford Health System (retired)<\/em><\/p>\n Under Hubbard\u2019s leadership as chief diversity officer, Henry Ford Health received a Crain\u2019s Detroit Business<\/em> Innovation in Diversity Award and was the first healthcare organization to be ranked among the nation\u2019s Top 50 Companies for Diversity. In addition to her 20-year career in health care, she founded the National Association of Black Women Entrepreneurs, which eventually grew to more than 5,000 members. She is also a founding member of the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She has been appointed to leadership roles by Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush; she served on a presidential transition team, two Detroit mayoral transition teams, the Detroit Area Agency on Aging Board, the Advisory Council of AARP, and the board of Matrix Human Services. She\u2019s the author of Sisters Are Cashing In: How Every Woman Can Make Her Financial Dreams Come True<\/em>, and a contributing author to other self-help books.<\/p>\n Fr. Gerald F. Cavanagh, S.J.<\/em>\u2028,\u00a0<\/em>Charles T. Fisher III Chair of Business Ethics PRIME Center, University of Detroit Mercy College of Business Administration<\/em><\/p>\n Nationally recognized as one of the founders of the field of business ethics, Fr. Cavanagh has given some 100 presentations on business ethics and corporate social responsibility throughout the world. He\u2019s published five books, more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and 20 chapters, as well as encyclopedia and magazine articles, monographs and proceedings papers.\u00a0 His research has been cited more than 2,750 times by other academics across the globe, and he has been quoted in business magazines such as Fortune<\/em>. His classic textbook, American Business Values<\/em>, has been required reading at business schools around the nation, and his books are collectively carried in more than 1,500 libraries worldwide. He\u2019s been a trustee at seven Jesuit universities, and served on the board of the Center for Religious Values in Business at Notre Dame. In his four decades at Detroit Mercy, Fr.
