Random testing coming, here are some resources

The University remains committed to ensuring the safety and health of our employees, while at the same time maintaining a vibrant campus experience for students and employees.

As announced by University President Antoine M. Garibaldi in September, the University is initiating random surveillance testing of students and employees. The testing requirement will be implemented in different stages. Employees and students who have not uploaded proof of vaccination will be randomly selected to provide proof of COVID-19 status. Individuals are responsible for getting the testing completed and will be advised about uploading the results.

A description of the process is forthcoming. Like many universities, Detroit Mercy has made this decision out of an abundance of caution and based on our Jesuit and Mercy mission, which calls for the care for the whole person. Providing a safe on-campus experience for faculty, staff, students and our community remains our goal.

In preparation for the surveillance testing and implementation, we are providing information about several FREE testing resources available in addition to paid testing services should you require a COVID test.

  • Find a Test Site
  • County Services: contact health department of your county of residence. There is no cost for these tests.
  • State Services at Michigan.gov
  • Lynxdx.com: register online for drive-through testing sites. Results are sent through email or text typically within 24 hours. There is no cost for these tests.
  • Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens: Appointments required. Sites normally offer drive-through testing process. Please refer to pharmacy websites for further information and scheduling. Students or employees may need to create an account as instructed by the pharmacy for retrieving test results. Insurance may be used or costs are patient’s responsibility.
  • QuickVue: This at-home test can be found in most pharmacy locations. Note that a viable test requires two tests taken 24 to 36 hours apart. If choosing this option, you must submit results from both tests.
