SUMMARY:CHASS Brazil trip information meeting
DESCRIPTION:Detroit Mercy’s College of Humanities\, Arts &amp\; Social Sc
 iences (CHASS) will offer an immersion trip to Brazil from May 17-27\, pro
 viding participants with the opportunity to explore African continuities a
 nd contributions to contemporary society.\n\nThose interested in this expe
 rience are encouraged to register for an upcoming virtual information sess
 ion on Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. A confirmation email with meeting details will b
 e sent upon registration.\n\nThis immersion program to northeast Brazil wi
 ll examine several issues relevant to the Afro-Brazilian diaspora\, includ
 ing racial affirmation\, discourses of harmony and confrontation\, and voi
 ces of presence and memory. These topics will be approached from the persp
 ectives of music\, art\, history\, religion\, dance and folklore.\n\nParti
 cipants will learn about the hierarchal religion of Candomblé and rhythm
 s of samba while exploring the intersection of Catholicism with Africanici
 ty in historic and present-day manifestations. The experience will also tr
 ace the history of a land that speaks to\, from and about the Afro-Brazili
 an experience.\n\nThis program is open to UDM students\, faculty\, staff\,
  alumni and University guests 18 years of age or older.\n\nTravel grants a
 re available to offset up to half of travel expenses for full-time undergr
 aduate students pursuing a CHASS major or minor.\n\nFor more information\,
