DESCRIPTION:Award-winning journalist Karla Rivas with Radio Progreso in Hon
 duras will be the guest speaker at a special Carney Latin American Solidar
 ity Archive (CLASA) event on Thursday\, April 20 at 12:45 p.m. in the St
 udent Union Ballroom.\n\nA virtual option is also available to those who
  cannot attend.\n\nRivas’ talk will focus on violence against women\, bo
 th domestic violence and political violence. She will tell the audience ab
 out the human rights situation in contemporary Honduras\, with an emphasis
  on the impact of systemic violence on women and children.\n\nThe radio st
 ation Rivas works for is run by a Honduran Jesuit\, Padre Melo\, and focus
 es on peace and justice issues in Honduras. It’s one of Honduras’ few 
 independent radio stations. Rivas was the first woman to win the Mackler a
 ward for her Courageous and Ethical Journalism.\n\nThe talk is in honor of
  the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of Fr. James “Guadalupe” Ca
 rney and is the first of two talks on April 20 hosted by CLASA at the Univ
