SUMMARY:In Our Own Voice
DESCRIPTION:All members of the Detroit Mercy community — students\, facul
 ty\, staff\, administrators\, alumni\, friends and family — are welcome 
 to attend "In Our Own Voice\," from the National Alliance on Mental Illnes
 s on Thursday\, March 2.\n\nThe event will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. inside
  the Chemistry Building\, Room 114. It's hosted by the McAuley School of N
 ursing and supported by a Mission Micro Grant.\n\n"In Our Own Voice" is a 
 unique public education program developed by NAMI\, in which two trained s
 peakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness
  and achieving recovery. The speakers take their audience on a journey dis
 cussing their dark days\, acceptance\, treatment\, coping skills and succe
 sses\, hopes and dreams.\n\nIOOV is an opportunity for those who have stru
 ggled with mental illness to gain confidence and share their individual ex
 periences of recovery while raising awareness and reducing stigma in their
  communities.\n\nAudience members are encouraged to offer feedback and ask
  questions following the conclusion of the presentation. The event is an e
 xcellent opportunity to create awareness and de-stigmatize mental health c
 onditions through hearing about experiences from individuals living with a
  mental illness.\n\nAttendance tickets will be provided to students who at
 tend.
