DESCRIPTION:Detroit Mercy Theatre Company’s Unheard Voices: Afro-Brazili
 an Diaspora is set for four performances\, April 20-23\, from the Marlen
 e Boll Theatre in downtown Detroit. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday th
 rough Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.\n\nUnheard Voices: Afro-Brazilian Diaspo
 ra\, curated and directed by Greg Grobis\, was created from experiences d
 uring the 2022 Fulbright Hays Brazil GPA Trip.\n\nIn the world premiere of
  Unheard Voices: Afro-Brazilian Diaspora it will illuminate Afro-Brazili
 an voices while raising awareness of the social\, political\, spiritual an
 d cultural experiences that compose communities of Salvador\, Bahia in Bra
 zil. In association with the Theatre in Social Change class\, this multime
 dia production will address social justice issues while using methods from
  Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed.\n\nEach show includes a talkba
 ck on the Afro-Brazilian Diaspora featuring Detroit Mercy professors and F
 ulbright Hays scholars from the region. The audience will be invited to th
 e stage to warm up their bodies and imaginations before participating in s
 ome of the scenes and forum events throughout the production.\n\nAll proce
 eds will benefit a quilombo community in their efforts to secure land righ
 ts.\n\nPlease note: Serious issues of any diaspora community can be trigge
 ring. Please be aware this show addressing sensitive content and may use a
 dult language.
