DESCRIPTION:Detroit Mercy's English Department will host poet and writer Ma
 rcelo Hernandez Castillo at 6:30 p.m. Thursday\, Jan. 19 as the first spea
 ker in its new virtual reading series\, Triptych.\n\nCastillo will give a 
 reading of his work followed by audience questions. The event is free and 
 open to the public. Register for the virtual reading.\n\nMarcelo Hernandez
  Castillo is the author of Children of Land: a Memoir\; Cenzontle\, which 
 was the winner of the A. Poulin\, Jr. prize\; and Dulce\, winner of the Dr
 inking Gourde Prize. He is a founding member of the Undocupoets\, which el
 iminated citizenship requirements from all major poetry book prizes in the
  U.S.\, and was recognized with the Barnes and Noble Writers for Writers a
 ward. he was the first undocumented student to graduate from the Helen Zel
 l Writers Program at the University of Michigan. He currently teaches in t
 he creative writing program at St. Mary's University\, and the Ashley Low-
 Res MFA Program\, as well as in poetry workshops for incarcerated youth in
  Northern California as the Yuba and Sutter County poet laureate.\n\n"Cast
