SUMMARY:Webinar to discuss conflict in Sudan featuring Christopher Tounsel
DESCRIPTION:The Detroit Mercy College of Humanities\, Arts &amp\; Social Sc
iences\, along with the African American Studies Program\, will host a Zoo
 m webinar on April 9 at 7 p.m. featuring Christopher Tounsel\, associate p
rofessor of History and director of African Studies at the University of W
ashington\, who will discuss the conflict in Sudan.\n\nIn April 2023\, civ
il war exploded in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. The fighting between
the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces has killed thousands\,
displaced millions and devolved into the world’s greatest humanitarian c
risis. In January 2025\, the U.S. State Department officially determined t
hat it had documented evidence of genocide.\n\nWhy did the civil war break
out? What is the present situation\, and what factors may determine a spe
edy or delayed end to the conflict? Tounsel will discuss the civil war’s
historical context and important features of the crisis and offer perspec
tive on the country's uncertain future.\n\nAll are invited to attend this
very important and enlightening discussion.\nRegister here!
