Detroit Mercy and Detroit’s Parks and Recreation department have joined in partnership to provide virtual foreign language programming to residents in the city.<\/p>\n

This is the second year the University’s Language & Cultural Training programs have facilitated free language and cultural enrichment classes. Last year, the community-based program introduced Arabic, Japanese and Spanish instruction for residents in two five-week spring sessions.<\/p>\n

This year’s fall session began Sept. 20 and was completely full. Residents could choose Italian, Korean and Spanish instruction.<\/p>\n

“We live in a region that is linguistically and culturally diverse,” said Director of Language & Cultural Training Lara Wasner<\/a>. “This partnership allows us to facilitate educational programming that is accessible and affordable, especially in locations that are most hit by economic hardship. We look forward to a sustainable partnership and continuing this fruitful work of engaging community together.”<\/p>\n
