The event is free and open to the public. Interested participants are asked to <a href=\"https:\/\/udmercy-edu.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/tJAtduCurzgrH9TFGA-wTya0Zcd2QEVRq6o_\">register beforehand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rekdal is the author of a book of essays,\u00a0<em>The Night My Mother Met Bruce Lee<\/em>;\u00a0the hybrid photo-text memoir,\u00a0<em>Intimate<\/em>; and six books of poetry, including\u00a0<em>Animal Eye<\/em>, winner of the UNT Rilke Prize;\u00a0<em>Imaginary Vessels<\/em>, finalist for the 2018 Kingsley Tufts Prize, and <em>Nightingale<\/em>, which won the 2020 Washington State Book Award for Poetry. She is a distinguished professor at the University of Utah, where she is also the creator and editor of West: A Translation, as well as the community web projects Mapping Literary Utah and Mapping Salt Lake City.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Paisley Rekdal&#8217;s gifts as a poet and intellectual are intractable and manifold. With all of their rhetorical pleasures and illustrative rhythms, Rekdal&#8217;s poems are deeply marked by a sensate, near terrestrial, relationship to language such that she refreshes and renews debates about beauty, suffering, and art for the twenty-first-century reader.&#8221; \u2014 Major Jackson, author of <em>The Absurd Man<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Triptych events, hosted by Detroit Mercy\u2019s poet-in-residence Stacy Gnall, will take place on the third Thursday for January, February and March at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
