Dear Detroit Mercy Community, friends, family and neighbors,<\/p>\n

As you now know, the Michigan State University family is reeling from the devastating mass shooting last night in East Lansing. On behalf of the Titan community, I express my sincerest condolences and ask that everyone send thoughts and prayers to those impacted by this tragedy.<\/p>\n

Devastating situations like this are happening all too often around our country. As president of a university, I cannot imagine the pain and heartache of this situation. Members of our Titan community may experience a great deal of emotions and challenges that stem from this situation, especially since many have family and friends that attend or are associated with MSU. Our Wellness Center is staffed with experts who care and are available for anyone experiencing challenges and need someone to talk with. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please\u00a0visit the Wellness Center site\u00a0for health and counseling resources<\/a>. The care of the whole individual remains at the heart of all that we do.<\/p>\n

It is important to note that the Detroit Mercy Leadership Team, Public Safety Department, and law enforcement agencies in southeast Michigan recently participated in a training to address active shooter situations. The leadership team is committed to these trainings throughout each academic year and will continue to play a role in helping to ensure the safety of our community. I strongly encourage everyone to register for Detroit Mercy\u2019s RAVE Mobile Safety System.
