\"RxThrough the end of the semester,\u00a0Rx for Reading Detroit<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0collecting new and\u00a0gently<\/i>\u00a0used children\u2019s books<\/b> from the Detroit Mercy community. We are in particular need of board books, picture books, early readers, Spanish and bilingual books, and books with culturally diverse characters. Please contact english@udmercy.edu<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0Gazale Chami<\/a>, one of Rx for Reading Student Coordinators, to schedule a delivery.<\/p>\n

Since 2014, Detroit Mercy\u2019s Rx for Reading program has distributed more than 206,500 books<\/b> to children and families in Metro Detroit. That\u2019s more than one book for every child<\/i> in Detroit.<\/p>\n

Another high-impact way to support our work is by giving a\u00a0monetary gift at our\u00a0Detroit Mercy Giving Page<\/a><\/b>.\u00a0100% of donations are used to purchase new books and build free libraries in our community. We distribute new books to local Head Start and Great Start preschoolers and through literacy events throughout our community.<\/p>\n

Employees can also set up an automatic\u00a0payroll deduction<\/a><\/b>\u00a0to\u00a0support children\u2019s literacy every month.<\/b>\u00a0$10 per paycheck\u00a0allows us to purchase over\u00a0300 brand new books<\/b>\u00a0over the course of a year.\u00a0To make a\u00a0recurring gift<\/a>\u00a0select College\/School\/Program #1 and specify Rx for Reading.<\/p>\n
