Michigan Poet Laureate Nandi Comer will read her work and engage in dialogue about craft and culture with Detroit poet Brittany Rogers at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12<\/strong> at University of Detroit Mercy.<\/p>\n

The event is free and open to the community. A reception and book signing will precede the event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Copies of Comer’s 2020 collection Tapping Out<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>are available for sale at the McNichols Campus bookstore in the lower level of the Student Union.<\/p>\n

Comer is the author of American Family: A Syndrome<\/em> and Tapping Out<\/em>, which was awarded the 2020 Society of Midland Authors Award and the 2020 Julie Suk Award. She is a Cave Canem Fellow, a Callaloo Fellow and a 2019 Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellow. She is the co-director of Detroit Lit. She was appointed Michigan’s second poet laureate this year.<\/p>\n

Rogers is a Detroit poet and educator as well as editor-in-chief for Muzzle Magazine<\/em> and co-host of the Poetry Foundation’s podcast VS<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The event will be held in Room 114 of the Chemistry Building on Detroit Mercy’s McNichols Campus. It begins with a reception and book signing at 5:30 p.m. and is co-sponsored by Detroit Mercy’s Department of English and College of Liberal Arts & Education.<\/p>\n
