University of Detroit Mercy\u2019s Center for Cyber Security & Intelligence Studies will host more than 300 students, their mentors and coaches at CyberPatriot Con from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 3 at the McNichols Campus.<\/p>\n
The event celebrates the completion of the 11th<\/sup> season of CyberPatriot, a National Youth Cyber Education Program created by\u00a0the Air Force Association (AFA)\u00a0to inspire K-12\u00a0students toward careers in cybersecurity\u00a0or other science, technology, engineering and\u00a0mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future.\u00a0More than 6,000 teams competed in head-to-head competition in a virtual environment. Over the years, the Michigan CyberPatriot program began with just four teams and has grown to more than 142 teams.<\/p>\n During the May 3 event, students will learn about the varied education and career tracks in Cybersecurity. In addition, teams will receive insight and advice on how to improve for the next season and participate in various games and activities during the day. Mentors and team leaders will learn about the nuts and bolts of the CyberPatriot Program, educational programs available for this field, the various career tracks in Cybersecurity and more.<\/p>\n Speakers will include cybersecurity expert Dann Lohrmann; Los Angeles Coaches Allen Stubblefield and Yenny Yi; and Chris Sorensen, a cybersecurity expert at GE Digital and current coach at Trenton High School.
