\"LibertyUniversity of Detroit Mercy student\u00a0Liberty Brooke Stevens is using her voice to advocate for\u00a0literacy, creative\u00a0expression\u00a0and social justice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stevens is entering her second year at UDM and is pursuing the University’s five-year Criminal Justice and Intelligence Analysis program with a minor in Psychology. Recently she was featured on FOX 2 News Detroit to discuss her newly published chapbook, <\/span>God is a Lesbian<\/span><\/i>, released through Bottlecap Press, as well as her volunteer work with RX for Reading.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Stevens, the interview gave her the opportunity to highlight the importance of literacy and access to books for young readers.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It was an absolute honor to be provided an opportunity to spread the mission of RX for reading,” said Stevens.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Stevens, literacy extends beyond reading, calling it a matter of equity and opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Literacy is a social justice issue,” she said. “Read to your neighborhood’s children and read banned books.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to her advocacy work, Stevens continues to pursue her creative passions through poetry and writing, using storytelling\u00a0to\u00a0encourage\u00a0dialogue\u00a0and inspire others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her appearance of FOX 2 not only displayed her accomplishments as a published author but also highlighted the importance of investing in literacy and ensuring every child has access to books and creative mentorship.<\/span><\/p>\n

A<\/span>s she continues her journey at UDM, Stevens hopes to use both her education and her writing to make a lasting impact\u00a0on\u00a0her community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
