Three students in the College of Health Professions\u2019 McAuley School of Nursing are the recipients of $4,000 scholarships from Metro Health Foundation to assist with tuition and other costs including uniforms, equipment and technology to prepare for the licensing examination.<\/p>\n
Kortney Hepting, Hyder Mirza and Dominique Mones, who are expected to graduate in May, received the 2019-20 scholarships based on their commitment to nursing and work in the classroom and commitment to healthcare in the Detroit area.<\/p>\n
Hepting is a residence hall advisor and co-founder of Active Minds, an organization working to remove the stigma of mental illness and provide resources. She has taken three mission trips, is a member of the Student Nurses Association and works with University Ministry.<\/p>\n
Mirza is president and founder of the Detroit Mercy chapter of MedLife, a medical mission trip organization serving clinics locally and internationally. He is a Detroit Mercy Presidential ambassador, volunteers at Detroit Rescue Mission and worked in Lima, Peru, helping build infrastructure in underserved areas.<\/p>\n
Mones is the Student Nurses Association president and past chair of the group\u2019s blood drive committee. She has worked as a tech in the pediatric hematology and oncology unit, and volunteered more than 60 hours in the emergency department at an urban hospital.<\/p>\n
It is the ninth year in a row the organization has funded scholarships, bringing the total investment in Nursing students to nearly $110,000. Metro Health has also provided funding for equipment and programming at McAuley School of Nursing since 1996.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
