Out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of attendees and individuals traveling to Detroit, the When We All Vote event scheduled on March 27 at Calihan Hall has been cancelled. Event organizers will explore options to reschedule this rally for Detroit at another date. Organizers will release updates on a new date and location in the near future.<\/p>\n
We appreciate the interest and support of this event, and apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation creates.<\/p>\n
On Friday, March 27, Detroit Mercy will host former First Lady and\u00a0When We All Vote<\/a>\u00a0Co-chair Michelle Obama at the organization’s first rally of 2020. Obama launched When We All Vote, a national nonpartisan voter participation initiative, in 2018 to increase voting in every election. Doors open at 4 p.m. at Calihan Hall on the McNichols Campus.<\/p>\n The rally is free and open to When We All Vote volunteers, partners, local high schoolers eligible to vote, leaders in the\u00a0My School Votes program<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a02020 Prom Challenge<\/a>, college students and educators. Tickets will be required.<\/p>\n A limited number of free tickets were available on a first come, first served basis to Detroit Mercy employees. Student Life Office on each campus will invite groups of students to this event as well.<\/p>\n This past November,\u00a0Michelle Obama released a video message<\/a>\u00a0to mark one year out until the general election and announce seven new co-chairs, more than 50 media, corporate and community\u00a0partners\u00a0<\/a>all joining When We All Vote<\/a>, and the\u00a0Voting Squad volunteer program<\/a>\u00a0to kick off this election season.\u00a0In that video she said<\/a>, \u201cMillions of new voters made their voices heard [in 2018] for the first time. Now the stakes are even higher and we are looking to you. Our country\u2014our democracy\u2014is counting on you.\u201d<\/p>\n This will be When We All Vote\u2019s first rally in 2020 and an opportunity to engage and inspire thousands of eligible voters in Michigan and across the country.<\/p>\n When We All Vote will hold a contest to give away tickets to two people and their guests to meet Michelle Obama backstage at the event. The winners will also receive travel accommodations to Detroit.
