Detroit Mercy\u2019s College of Health Professions is now accepting applications from Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) for the institution\u2019s new online Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) Post-FNP Certificate program.<\/p>\n
It is one of only 13 such programs in the country and the first of its kind to be offered by a Michigan university.<\/p>\n
Detroit Mercy\u2019s innovative online program prepares the FNP to provide urgent and emergent health care services to patients of all ages. The program is built upon the University\u2019s highly regarded family nurse practitioner specialty and will prepare students for the AANPCP Emergency Nurse Practitioner Board Certification Exam upon program completion.<\/p>\n
\u201cFamily Nurse Practitioners working in the emergency department need specialty training and certification to care for patients in urgent and emergent situations,\u201d said Detroit Mercy Clinical Associate Professor Jennifer Ruel. \u201cDetroit Mercy is in a unique position to provide this program because of its commitment to building highly skilled and culturally sensitive practitioners.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to statistics, the 2019 median salary range for nurse practitioners, which make up the majority of those studying to become an ENP, is $115,800 annually. In addition, the 10-year growth outlook for the FNP field shows a 26% increase. Ruel noted that current healthcare trends indicate a move toward requiring ENP certification in the future in order for family nurse practitioners to secure employment in emergency department environments.<\/p>\n
This new program is part of Detroit Mercy\u2019s McAuley School of Nursing graduate programs, which are consistently ranked nationally in U.S. News & World Report. Students in the online ENP program will need to be on campus for intensive clinicals one time each semester. Those who complete the three-semester program will be eligible to sit for the AANPCP Emergency Nurse Practitioner Board Certification Exam.<\/p>\n
