There were over 80 creative and thoughtful entries from all four campuses. The following were selected for inclusion in the capsule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A letter for future faculty, staff, administrators and students<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the university magazine <em>Spiritus<\/em><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A flash drive with video of the blessing\/opening of the renovated Student Union<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A Black Lives Matter poster<\/li>\n<li>The poem \u201cLockdown\u201d from a <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.udmercy.edu\/poetry\/2021\/03\/23\/tuesday-march-23-lockdown\/\">John Staudenmaier blog post<\/a> (below)<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0 COVID-19 mask and a Titans Together pin<\/li>\n<li>Copies of the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy and of the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus<\/li>\n<li>A piece of slate from the Fisher Administration Center<\/li>\n<li>A COVID-19 test kit<\/li>\n<li>One of the virtual fans used for the 2021 basketball games in Calihan Hall<\/li>\n<li><em>Hitchcocked! Each contributor will receive a gift card in appreciation. Please note more than 25 submissions were for a face mask and\/or Titans together pin. Michael Surufka OFM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Yes there is fear.<br \/>\nYes there is isolation.<br \/>\nYes there is panic buying.<br \/>\nYes there is sickness.<br \/>\nYes there is even death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">But,<br \/>\nThey say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise<br \/>\nYou can hear the birds again.<br \/>\nThey say that after just a few weeks of quiet<br \/>\nThe sky is no longer thick with fumes<br \/>\nBut blue and grey and clear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">They say that in the streets of Assisi<br \/>\nPeople are singing to each other<br \/>\nacross the empty squares,<br \/>\nkeeping their windows open<br \/>\nso that those who are alone<br \/>\nmay hear the sounds of family around them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland<br \/>\nIs offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Today a young woman I know<br \/>\nis busy spreading fliers with her number<br \/>\nthrough the neighbourhood<br \/>\nSo that the elders may have someone to call on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples<br \/>\nare preparing to welcome<br \/>\nand shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting<br \/>\nAll over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way<br \/>\nAll over the world people are waking up to a new reality<br \/>\nTo how big we really are.<br \/>\nTo how little control we really have.<br \/>\nTo what really matters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">To Love.<br \/>\nSo we pray and we remember that<br \/>\nYes there is fear.<br \/>\nBut there does not have to be hate.<br \/>\nYes there is isolation.<br \/>\nBut there does not have to be loneliness.<br \/>\nYes there is panic buying.<br \/>\nBut there does not have to be meanness.<br \/>\nYes there is sickness.<br \/>\nBut there does not have to be disease of the soul<br \/>\nYes there is even death.<br \/>\nBut there can always be a rebirth of love.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.<br \/>\nToday, breathe.<br \/>\nListen, behind the factory noises of your panic<br \/>\nThe birds are singing again<br \/>\nThe sky is clearing,<br \/>\nSpring is coming,<br \/>\nAnd we are always encompassed by Love.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Open the windows of your soul<br \/>\nAnd though you may not be able<br \/>\nto touch across the empty square,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Sing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pamela Zarkowski, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, announced the winners of the recent Detroit Mercy Time Capsule items competition.
