Detroit Mercy’s ENP program is unique in the state and nationwide.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Detroit Mercy\u2019s College of Health Professions & McAuley School of Nursing is the only Michigan university to offer an Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) program.<\/p>\n

The ENP program is a one-year online program and is a post-Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) program. The ENP program offered by Detroit Mercy is one of only 14 across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cFamily Nurse Practitioners working in the emergency department need specialty training and certification to care for patients in urgent and emergent situations,\u201d said Detroit Mercy Clinical Associate Professor Jennifer Ruel. \u201cDetroit Mercy is in a unique position to provide this one-year certificate program because of its commitment to building highly skilled and culturally sensitive practitioners and leaders in today\u2019s healthcare arena.\u201d<\/p>\n

The online ENP program prepares students for the AANPCP Emergency Nurse Practitioner Board Certification Exam upon the program\u2019s completion and is AAENP approved.<\/p>\n

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2021 median range salary for those training to become an ENP is $116,906 annually. Ruel noted that students from the first cohort in 2021 said that it was a great learning experience and that they felt well-prepared to work in emergency medicine.<\/p>\n

Students in the online ENP program will need to be on campus for intensive clinicals two days each semester, in March or April and again in July.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo become a successful ENP takes much focus, learning and determination,\u201d said Nicole Zmijewski, an ENP student at the University. \u201cThe ENP program at University of Detroit Mercy has not only laid the groundwork to establish a successful foundation but has enlisted instructors who have a passion for emergency medicine. Together, all the elements have created an optimal atmosphere for academic achievement and ENP certification.\u201d<\/p>\n

The program, now entering its second year, is part of Detroit Mercy\u2019s McAuley School of Nursing graduate programs, which are consistently ranked nationally in the U.S. News & World Report\u00a0<\/em>\u201cBest Colleges\u201d editions. In January, the University\u2019s online graduate nursing program received a No. 115 ranking.<\/p>\n
