From March 8th 2024, to March 10th 2024, our club Secretary Hannah Burdinie participated in the ISACA Scholarship Case Competition and won the first place prize with her team Zero Trust. The ISACA Scholarship Case Competition is held yearly at the University of Detroit Mercy, Oakland University, and Eastern Michigan University. This year, Oakland University graciously hosted the competition, furthering the goal of providing students with real-world Cybersecurity experiences. Students can form teams of one or many to work on the case and present their findings to a high-level panel of industry professionals. Hannah Burdinie is enrolled in the 5-year accelerated Master’s in Cybersecurity program at the University of Detroit Mercy and is also pursuing a Bachelor’s of English concurrently. With her partner, Andrew Caswell, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity at Michigan Technological University, the two worked tirelessly to identify a solution to a complex penetration-test-based case, ultimately identifying a set of compromised user logins, and working all of that information into a highly professional presentation. After an excellent presentation, team Zero Trust took home the $4,000 first-place prize, making this the second year in a row in which a Detroit Mercy student team has taken the first prize.
