From Friday, March 14th, 2025, to Sunday, March 16th, 2025, five local universities competed in the 11th annual ISACA Detroit Cybersecurity Scholarship Competition, comprising 20 cybersecurity student teams. During this competition, student teams are first tasked with working through a technical case that changes topics yearly, culminating in a professional presentation to judges who are high-ranking Cybersecurity professionals in the Detroit area.
This year, the technical case focused on investigating a company that was hacked, with a focus on identifying sensitive information leaks using web exploitation and Burp-Suite technical tools. After solving the technical case, students then presented their findings. This competition provides students with an excellent opportunity to test their web hacking skills and professional presentation skills simultaneously.
One UDM team won 1st place, with two UDM teams tying for second place. This is the third year in a row in which a Detroit Mercy student team has taken the first prize.
