UDM Students Win $9,000 in Prizes at the 12th Annual ISACA Detroit Cybersecurity Scholarship

The ISACA Detroit Chapter hosts an annual Scholarship Competition where students work from Friday to Sunday morning on a cybersecurity case and take on the role of consultants, culminating in a professional presentation to judges who act as managers. Each year’s case varies, with this year’s involving an incident investigation of a compromised server using Nmap, Gobuster, and ExifTool.

This year, University of Detroit Mercy students brought home $9,000 in prizes, competing against 25 teams from five Michigan universities. First place and the $4,000 scholarship went to Titan Consulting, comprised of Noel Renu and Adam Jamaleddin. In a tie for second place, each team received a $2,500 scholarship: Longo Consulting & Solutions, represented by Harrison Haviland-Longo competing solo, and Torchwood Consulting, comprised of Ali Laho and Jarod Cunningham. Additionally, the team of Samwell Mchunga, Eyitooni Oladipo, Angel Plamoottii, and Shifa Khanom received an honorable mention.

This competition remains an excellent opportunity for UDM students to test their technical skills and professional presentation skills simultaneously. Congratulations to all of our competitors, and a special thank you to the ISACA Detroit Chapter and organizers Sajay Rai and Richard Cozart for hosting another outstanding competition.
