04/13/26: Smile, You’ve Been Hacked: Social Engineering In the Real World

We closed out the winter semester in April with a technical deep dive into social engineering, featuring Nicholas Dedvukaj from Tyler Technologies. Nicholas first walked our members through his own career journey, then showed us a look under the hood at real-world social engineering engagements. This session specifically highlighted how devastatingly effective manipulating the pseudo “human firewall” can truly be. We went over the psychology and execution behind these attacks, providing our members with a concrete understanding of how threat actors bypass strict technical controls using only a smile.

Nicholas provided students with a short list of advice on how to get into penetration testing, develop connections with others, and move up in the world of Cybersecurity.

We would like to offer our thanks to Nicholas Dedvukaj for taking time out of his busy schedule to discuss the topic of Social Engineering with our club members!
