The College of Liberal Arts & Education (CLAE) will launch its first research showcase the week of April 15.
A steering committee composed of faculty representing the humanities, arts and social sciences and led by Steven Huprich, CLAE associate dean for graduate education, will engage in planning throughout the winter semester. The committee includes humanities representatives Stephen Pasqualina, assistant professor of English, and Nick Rombes, professor of English, and arts representatives David Cassilo, assistant professor of Communication Studies, and Andrew Papa, associate professor of Performing Arts. Felicia Grey, assistant professor of Political Science and Sarah Rowe, assistant professor of Psychology, will represent the social sciences.
The College will partner with Detroit Mercy’s Office for Sponsored Research Activities (OSPRA), which coordinates an annual University-wide Celebration of Scholarly Achievement.
“Our event is designed to showcase student and faculty research collaboration across disciplines,” said Huprich. “We encourage faculty to include this event on their syllabi and promote it in their classes.”
While the steering committee is developing the details, work which has already been completed, or is about to be completed, is the ideal content to present. Examples may include a brief paper or poster presentation, video production, demonstration of a recently developed project, poetry or a live production. All projects need a faculty sponsor who will be responsible for ensuring the project is ready for presentation at the time of the event.
“More information later this month,” said Huprich. “We look forward to your participation and are eager to highlight the great research our faculty do with our students.”
