Award-winning author Maisy Card joined the CHASS community for an evening of storytelling with a reading from her novel, These Ghosts Are Family. Talented student speakers Asha George, English major, and Tia Ellison, Cybersecurity major and Creative Writing minor, opened the evening, sharing their own impactful works. Following the reading, local Detroit author Jazmin Ortavia Cooper facilitated an insightful conversation with Card and then encouraged attendees to explore family, identity, and legacy themes.
Prof. Justin Williams, Director of the African American Studies Program and Associate Professor of History sponsored the event, along with the Department of English and College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences. It was a memorable night of reflection, community, and creative expression. Stay tuned for more such engaging events throughout the remainder of the semester.
