Distinguished alum Faye Alexander Nelson ’75, ’81, joined CHASS students and faculty on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in the Student Union Ballroom. Faye Nelson is a well-recognized African American female leader in the City of Detroit and internationally. Her many accomplishments include serving as the first President and CEO of the non-profit Detroit RiverFront Conservancy responsible for the first three miles of renovation to the Riverfront. Two students from the Pre-Law Program [Please ask Prof. Dionne for their names] facilitated a lively conversation with Faye Nelson who offered valuable perspectives on leadership, law school, and life.
CHASS Dean Jocelyn Boryczka announced the establishment of a Pre-Law Society for all of our Pre-law Students at UDM. The Society, as Prof. Lee Dionne, Director of the Pre-Law Program outlined, will be student-run and provide a suite of opportunities to support and advance our students as they prepare for their legal careers. A $50,000 donor gift will initially support this Society.
“I’m excited—the future is today, and I’m so proud to be here and meet these fantastic students,” Nelson said. “It fills me with joy because these students don’t have to be here, but I’m really appreciative and excited to share some thoughts and, most importantly, hear from them.”
Co-sponsored by the Pre-Law Program, Political Science Department, Women’s & Gender Studies, and more, the event offered students a unique chance to connect with an industry leader. For details on future events, contact Lee Dionne at dionnele@udmercy.edu.
