CHASS Night at Witch!

CHASS Night at Witch!

The Detroit Mercy Theatre Company hosted CHASS night on Saturday, November 2, following Witch.

This modern twist on a Jacobean classic follows a mysterious outsider in a small village who tempts locals with their deepest desires. When he approaches Elizabeth, a woman shunned as a “witch,” unexpected alliances form, and the lines between good and evil blur in a tale of passion and power.

Following the show, Dean Jocelyn Boryczka and Prof. Mary Elizabeth Valesano, Interim Chair of the Performing Arts Department, explored the play’s themes and characters as part of the CHASS Faculty Colloquium coordinated by Prof. Diane Robinson-Dunn, Associate Professor of History.  Dean Boryczka and Prof. Valesano discussed “witch” in terms of theatrical performance through costume design and political representations such as the radical feminist group W.I.T.C.H., which remains active today.
