The Detroit Mercy Theatre Company (DMTC) will launch its 55th season with a production of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, adapted by playwright Marc Palmieri. The production explores themes of mistaken identity, unrequited love, and the comedic twists of human relationships.
Twelfth Night will open in the new Detroit Mercy Black Box Theatre located on the ground level of the Student Union. This marks the first time in the University’s history that a permanent, state-of-the-art theater will be on the McNichols campus. Keep an eye out for celebratory events in the coming weeks and months.
This production will be directed by our very own Sarah Hawkins Rusk, an award-winning actor, director, and theatre educator. With 18 years of professional experience and an MFA from Wayne State University, Rusk has directed for multiple metro Detroit theaters, including Open Book Theatre, Tipping Point Theatre, and Detroit Opera Youth Theatre. Her 2022 DMTC production of Antigone received national recognition from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Twelfth Night marks her fifth production with DMTC, where she also serves as Managing Director. Tickets for the production are available at DetroitMercyArts.com.
The season’s promotional poster was designed by Stephen Pasqualina.
