Continuing our CHASS practice of radical hospitality, the rock garden designed to welcome students, faculty, and staff into community is back near the Briggs building sign. During this year’s PTV session, students joined Associate Dean Greg Grobis and Dean Jocelyn Boryczka in creating a lasting symbol of community in front of Briggs. Together, students placed hand-painted rocks—each carrying a personal message of welcome, kindness, or encouragement—around the Briggs sign to form the Radical Hospitality Rock Garden.
This growing collection reflects the spirit of Detroit Mercy students: rooted in compassion, creativity, and a relationship building. The Radical Hospitality Rock Garden serves as a colorful reminder of the values that shape how we create an inclusive community of belonging.
