The Department of History invites students, faculty, and staff to a Learn and Lunch event exploring connections between Native American solidarity and global liberation movements. The session will trace links from the Underground Railroad to modern-day activism in Palestine. This event, part of Native American Heritage Month, features speakers who bring diverse expertise in Indigenous studies, history, and social justice. Panelists include Seth Allard, PhD Candidate in Social Work at Wayne State University; Jessica Borsellino, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Detroit Mercy; Roy Finkenbine, Professor of History at the University of Detroit Mercy; and George Milne, Associate Professor of History at Oakland University. Together, they will discuss how Indigenous peoples’ unique cultures, spiritualities, and experiences have informed their investments in political struggles from the local to the global.
Event details: Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 12:00–1:30 p.m. in the Bargman Room, McNichols Campus Library, second floor. A limited number of boxed lunches will be provided.
