Donate to RX for Reading Detroit now to make your investment twice as strong

Detroit Mercy’s Rx for Reading Detroit has distributed more than 220,000 books to low-income children and families in Metro Detroit, since 2014. That’s more than two books for every young child in the city of Detroit.

Now through the new year, donations will be matched twice by two loyal Rx for Reading donors, up to $6,000. Donations are tax deductible, and 100% of donated monies purchase new books and install little free libraries in the community.

“Each book represents the openhearted giving of individuals who recognize that reading is not only the window to opportunity, but also imagination, creativity, and joy,” said Mary-Catherine Harrison, executive director of the program, associate professor of English and department chair.

It is easy and fast to give a gift through the Detroit Mercy Giving Page.

Detroit Mercy employees can also set up automatic payroll deduction (designate Rx for Reading as the College/School/Program) and in less than two minutes, give the gift that keeps on giving.

“One year of giving, $5 per paycheck, purchases 175 brand new books for children who need them,” said Harrison. “That means every single month you’ll be giving 14 brand new books to kids in our community.”

Rx for Reading Detroit is dedicated to raising the next generation of readers and leaders—and future Detroit Mercy students.
