The CHASS community celebrated the retirement of four exceptional faculty members who have dedicated their careers to shaping minds, advancing scholarship, and building community at Detroit Mercy.
Prof. Justin Kelly, S.J. (Religious Studies), Prof. David Koukal (Philosophy), Prof. Greg Sumner (History), and Prof. Charles Wilson (Criminal Justice) were honored for leaving an indelible mark on our community through their teaching, mentorship, leadership, scholarship, and presence in the lives of their students and colleagues.
During the celebration, faculty chairs and longtime colleagues spoke about each retiree, sharing personal stories, professional accomplishments, and moments that captured the spirit and impact of their work. Laughter, a few tears, and heartfelt appreciation filled the room as memories were exchanged and gratitude expressed.
Dean Jocelyn Boryczka presented each honoree with a gift on behalf of the College, recognizing their years of service and the legacy that will live on into the future.
While their day-to-day presence will be missed, the influence of these four educators continues in the classrooms that they shaped, the students they inspired, and the community that they helped to build. We thank them for all the gifts and talents that they shared with CHASS and wish them joy and fulfillment.
