Prologues, Transitions, and Viewpoints (PTV) — the final step of freshman orientation — officially welcomed the newest Titans in the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (CHASS) to campus.
Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs Kiantee Rupert-Jones, Assistant Dean Greg Grobis, and Dean Jocelyn Boryczka led the CHASS sessions, introducing first-year students to the heart of the college: academic excellence, personal growth, and community connection. Through Prologues, students engaged directly with Detroit Mercy faculty to explore the expectations of college academics. During Transitions, they built connections with peers through interactive exercises that encouraged collaboration and friendship. And in Viewpoints, students experienced Detroit’s cultural and social landscape while serving the community through hands-on projects.
After their welcome lecture, CHASS students also contributed to the Radical Rock Garden, placing hand-painted rocks with messages of kindness and encouragement at the Briggs Building sign. This meaningful activity reflected the spirit of support and creativity that defines CHASS. With a week of learning, connecting, and giving back, CHASS leaders helped ensure that every new student felt both welcomed and ready to thrive in their first semester at Detroit Mercy.
