CSI Comes to Detroit: Prof. Camille Howard Leads Immersive Forensics Simulation

Prof. Camille Howard, Department of Criminal Justice, recently hosted an engaging, CSI-style, hands-on forensics experience for her students in and outside the Briggs Building. Detroit Police helped to curate the simulation and worked with students to amplify their hands-on learning. Engaging in realistic investigative scenarios allowed students to build their forensic and analytical skills.

Two student groups participated in separate simulations. The first worked through an outdoor scenario staged as a Halloween party gone wrong, complete with a marked crime scene that students documented, analyzed, and interpreted.

The second group conducted their investigation inside the Briggs Building. They navigated an indoor crime scene, examined evidence, reconstructed the sequence of events, and collaborated to determine possible explanations.

Such a simulation reflects the critical role that experiential learning plays in a CHASS education.
