The CHASS Discover Detroit Series kicked off Winter 2025 by going to the historic Redford Theatre just down the road from UDM. CHASS faculty, staff, and students attended the classic Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film Top Hat. History Prof. Greg Sumner led the CHASS group on an exciting tour of the theatre before he served as MC for the show. Prof. Sumner regularly acts as the Redford Theatre’s tour guide and MC, contributing his expertise to this all-volunteer operation.
Established in 1928 as a neighborhood movie house, the Redford Theatre is the only such theatre in Detroit to have been in continuous operation since opening. Its Japanese-style decoration and Barton organ, original to the building, make this a key place to check out in our UDM neighborhood.
