
University of Detroit Mercy will welcome, as part of its celebration of Black History Month, historian Kendra D. Boyd, Assistant Professor of History at Rutgers University–Camden, for a book talk on Thursday, February 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the Loranger Architecture Exhibition Space.
Boyd will discuss her book Freedom Enterprise, winner of the Historical Society of Michigan’s 2025 State History Award. Her scholarship focuses on African American history, Black entrepreneurship, and economic self-determination, examining how Black-owned businesses in Michigan shaped broader struggles for civil rights, labor, and community empowerment.
The event is open to the campus and wider community.
