Detroit Mercy\u2019s English Department students recently participated in the 54th annual Michigan College English Association (MCEA) Conference. Held virtually on October 5, the conference featured breakout sessions where students shared creative works, including poetry and personal reflections on social justice, trauma, and identity.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n Representing Detroit Mercy were students Farah Abdulrahim, Cera Mlotkowski, Kateri Sollars, Ronan Mansilla, and Jenna Saker. Each presented unique perspectives, sparking meaningful dialogue and deep engagement from the audience. The panel offered an enriching experience for attendees, with Detroit Mercy students showcasing their skills and sharing insights on topics of political liberation, cultural identity, and personal growth.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n Student<\/span>s who participated offered their reflections<\/span>. Cera Mlotkowski appreciated the opportunity to share personal experiences with a supportive audience. \u201cYour words matter, so listen and absorb the experiences of those joined by you,\u201d she advised future participants.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n Farah Abdulrahim valued the audience\u2019s attentiveness and engagement, urging future presenters to share confidently: \u201cYour work is more valuable than you think.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n For Jenna Saker, a Political Science major and Literature minor, the conference was a platform to express her Palestinian identity. She credits her professors in the English Department for their guidance, which has been essential in her literary journey.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n The conference underscored Detroit Mercy’s commitment to supporting student voices in literary and social discourse, fostering a space where students could share their stories with a wider community.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
