The Detroit Mercy Theatre Company (DMTC) wraps up its 2024-25 season with The Grown Ups by Skylar Fox and Simon Henriques, running April 4-13 at the Marlene Boll Theatre inside the Boll Family YMCA in downtown Detroit. This production marks a significant moment in the Company\u2019s history. This will be the final production at the Boll Theatre before the Detroit Mercy Theatre Company moves into its new home: the state-of-the-art Detroit Mercy Black Box Theatre on the McNichols campus.<\/p>\n
The Grown Ups is set at a remote sleepaway camp. This show follows a group of counselors as they build bonds, challenge one another\u2019s beliefs, and confront an eerie presence lurking beyond the glow of the campfire. What begins as a familiar summer setting soon becomes a thought-provoking exploration of fear, uncertainty, and collective responsibility.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is one of those plays that I hope audiences discuss the entire drive home,\u201d said Prof. Andrew Papa, Chair of the Department of Performing Arts and director of this show, \u201cIt\u2019s a piece that\u2019s just as intellectual as it is emotional\u2014a call to action in a world full of uncertainty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Originally produced outdoors in Brooklyn in 2021, The Grown Ups captured attention for its intimate storytelling and powerful themes. DMTC\u2019s production brings that same energy to Detroit for six performances.<\/p>\n
