Nearly 160 members of the GM Student Corps came the UDM campus on July 8 for its annual \u201cDay in the Life of a College Student\u201d program. The GM Student Corps is a paid summer internship for high schools students in the Detroit metro area who engage in community-based projects and learn critical professional and life skills. They are partnered with a College consultant and multiple retired GM employees to create a cross-generational program that transforms these students\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n

This year, Emily Mason-Regnier, CHASS English minor, served as a College consultant and represented UDM with great pride in mentoring her high school interns.<\/p>\n

Dean Jocelyn Boryczka kicked off the day with opening remarks. Then, students participated in interactive sessions that featured the dynamism of our CHASS faculty, including \u201cCSI: Detroit \u2013 Who Done It?\u201d with Prof. Erick Barnes, \u201cImprovisation for Non-Actors\u201d with Prof. Andrew Papa, and \u201cLeadership: The Big Secret\u201d with Prof. Don DiPaolo.<\/p>\n

After lunch in the TDR, students visited the Fitness Center for recreational activities. Members of the Detroit Mercy men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams joined them along with Head Coach Mark Montgomery who got on the court and offered some informal coaching. Students closed out the day with the Admissions team to learn about applying for college and navigating financial aid.<\/p>\n
