Professor and Chair of Counseling and Addiction Studies Nancy G. Calleja, Ph.D., LPC, has co-authored a new graduate-level textbook and accompanying clinical workbook published by Cognella in September 2025. The publications \u2014 Fundamentals of Addiction Counseling: An Introduction to Clinical Practice and Fundamentals of Addiction Counseling: Clinical Practice Manual \u2014 provide a comprehensive foundation in addiction treatment and are designed to support graduate courses in counseling, psychology, social work, and related fields.<\/div>\n

The textbook covers key topics such as the effects of psychoactive substances, assessment and diagnosis, and treatment modalities, while addressing timely issues including evidence-based practices, opioid addiction, and integrated healthcare. The accompanying workbook enhances learning with case studies, reflection questions, and applied exercises.<\/div>\n

Co-written with former Detroit Mercy faculty member Elvita Kondili, the project builds on the University\u2019s long-standing leadership in addiction counseling education \u2014 home to the nation\u2019s second oldest program.
