The vision of Justin Williams,<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">associate professor of History and director of the African American Studies program,<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">to provide an opportunity that gives faculty and students the chance to engage with community members at a local business where they can enjoy conversation over a meal.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">These meet-ups are designed to introduce Detroit Mercy faculty, staff and students to the rich diversity of the local Liv6 neighborhood and its deep African American history. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Held periodically throughout the academic year during the University\u2019s dead hour, the most recent 6 Mile Meet up took place on the McNichols Campus featuring food from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stuffmypickles.com\/\">What\u2019s the Dil<\/a>l?. Located across the street from Lansing-Reilly, this Black-owned business was the dream of Leona Gist-Milton after she attended culinary school in 1997. In November 2022, she opened What\u2019s the Dill?, a restaurant that uses dill pickles in place of bread for unique sandwiches. She works alongside her husband, siblings, mom, father and son to bring healthy and unique eats to the Detroit community.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Another 6-Mile Meetup is scheduled for March.
