Today is the first anniversary, plus one day, of Rx for Reading Detroit, founded by one of UDM\u2019s professors, Mary-Catherine Harrison. \u00a0She accepted my invitation to edit today\u2019s post.<\/p>\n

Friday, September 25 \u00a0– \u00a0\u201cSomebody has to go polish the stars\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most of us didn\u2019t fall in love with poetry in a college classroom.\u00a0 We fell in love with it as children, listening to the lilt of nursery rhymes, learning to read in the company of Dr. Seuss.<\/p>\n

When I founded Rx for Reading Detroit one year ago, I couldn\u2019t have imagined where we would be today.\u00a0 With the collaboration of community partners, the hard work of volunteers, and the incredible generosity of hundreds of donors and supporters, we have distributed over 15,000 children\u2019s books to kids in our community, built 15 RX for Reading Libraries in low-income health, dental, and WIC clinics, and read with over 150 kids in our community.\u00a0 Please take a moment to read more about\u00a0our work<\/a>\u00a0and consider\u00a0making a donation<\/a>\u00a0to help support children\u2019s literacy in our community.<\/p>\n

All children deserve poetry.<\/p>\n
